Where can I find free printable vintage art?
You can find thousands of high-resolution artworks available in the public domain for free to easily update a room in your home. Did you know that a lot of the vintage wall art that is sold at home decor stores originally came from the public domain?
What is the public domain?
The public domain refers to any creative work where either:
- exclusive intellectual property rights never applied or
- whose copyrights have expired
In a lot of cases, the creative work was created before copyright laws were established. This means that exclusive intellectual property rights never applied. In other more recent cases, copyright is automatically granted to the creator of the artwork. However, copyright protection only lasts for a certain period of time. Once this period is over, the copyright expires and the piece of art passes into the public domain. As a result, anyone is free to use it for either personal or commercial use.

Where can I find more free printable artwork?
There are many resources online to find free printable vintage art in the public domain. Here are some of my favorite sites:
To narrow down your search for printable artwork on those sites, you can use search filters (e.g. “paintings” and “public domain”/”open access”) and keywords (e.g. “landscape”). I also recommend making sure to always download the largest resolution possible.
How can I print vintage art?
Once you’ve decided on the size of art you would like for your space, you can resize the original image using the native photo editor on your computer or a site like Canva. One of the most popular sizes is 8×10 printable wall art.
Then, you can decide what to print it on. My two favorite options for vintage free printable wall art are:
- Print and frame: use matte paper with texture to make it look more realistic or regular matte fine art paper or card stock. Depending on the size of your vintage prints, you can print them at home, a local print shop or using an online printing service.
- Canvas prints: If you prefer the look of canvas for your vintage art, you can get a canvas printed at a local print store or online. I did this for one of the vintage artworks in our home and love how it turned out!

How can I frame vintage art?
My favorite places to find affordable frames are thrift stores and yard sales. You can even use stain, spray paint or Rub n Buff to change the look! If you prefer to purchase new frames, you can find great options online. If you’re going with a canvas print, you can chose to not add any frame, have a frame added when ordering or you can even build your own frame. That’s what I did with our vintage art canvas print that I shared above!
I hope you liked my collection of free art and found the details on how to access more printable vintage art, print and use art prints helpful! As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.
