Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige: Paint Color Review

Are you looking for the perfect neutral paint color to add to your home? If so, you’ve probably come across Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams. It’s one of my absolute favorite neutral paint colors! I’ve used it a lot throughout the Hills House: in a satin sheen for the kitchen cabinets and the primary bathroom vanity and also in a semi-gloss sheen on the baseboards and doors. Today I want to share with you my paint color review for Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige to help you decide if it’s the right color for your home!

What color is Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige?

Accessible Beige is a beige paint color that is neutral and warm. It has undertones of gray and is sometimes described as a greige. It’s the perfect choice if you want a neutral color that is versatile, works in many different spaces and looks beautiful in all paint sheens.

Here is an example of Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige cabinets (painted in a satin sheen):

Agreeable Gray vs Accessible Beige

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige is kind of like a sister to Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray which is a gray paint color that is neutral and warm but has undertones of beige. Agreeable Gray is pretty much the opposite of Accessible Beige but similar.

Agreeable Gray leans more toward the cooler side of the color spectrum due to its gray undertones. It’s a great choice for a more contemporary look or farmhouse look.

We used Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray on the walls at the Califonia Cottage. You can see how the color of Agreeable Gray around the shiplap barn door changes depending on the light and the shadows:

Agreeable Gray walls with white barn door

Accessible Beige is warmer than Agreeable Gray. That makes it ideal to create cozy and inviting but also sophisticated and timeless spaces.

What is the LRV of SW Accessible Beige?

The Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of SW Accessible Beige is 58. LRV measures the percentage of light a paint color reflects. It’s measured on a scale from zero (absolute black, absorbing all light and heat) to one hundred (pure white, reflecting all light). This means that Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams is on the lighter side but much darker than white.

Why is Accessible Beige so popular?

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige is one of the most popular colors because its a warm neutral greige. Greige in general has been a favored choice, especially for kitchen cabinets over the last few years. Accessible Beige is a sophisticated and timeless shade of greige and looks beautiful in a variety of paint sheens. That makes it perfect for a lot of different spaces and applications!

What are the undertones of Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige?

When you look at Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams in person, you see a beige with a very light, grayish undertone. A lot of traditional beige paint colors can look yellow or orange and very warm. That is not the case at all with Accessible Beige paint. Accessible Beige looks more neutral and subtle.

However, it can be a little bit of a chameleon in my opinion. Depending on the light, it can change its appearance from warmer to cooler. I’ve even seen it have purple/pink or green undertones in certain light and depending on the room.

When should Accessible Beige be used?

Accessible Beige is a great option if you’re looking for a greige paint that pairs well with warmer tones for a cozy and more traditional look in your space.

When should Accessible Beige not be used?

Accessible Beige is not the best option if you’re looking for a greige that pairs well with cooler tones or if you’re looking for a really modern or industrial look in your space.

What colors and materials go with Accessible Beige?

In my homes, I’ve paired Sherwin Williams paint color Accessible Beige with Sherwin Williams Alabaster. They complement each other perfectly and look so beautiful together!

Here’s a couple pictures in natural light of our Accessible Beige door and Accessible Beige baseboards in a semi-gloss finish against our Alabaster walls in an eg-shel finish:

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige with Alabaster walls

I love how Accessible Beige is a somewhat light color but it’s contrasting enough to make the trim pop against the Alabaster white walls.

I’ve also paired SW Accessible Beige with brass and white oak wood in the Hills House kitchen. Here you can see it with our satin brass kitchen pulls and white oak engineered wood floors:

Our kitchen and living room both face east and Accessible Beige looks lighter there than it does e.g. in our dining room which is a north facing room.

Tips for choosing the best paint color

Personally, I like to take recommendations for paint colors from professional designers. There are a number of colors that are popular and used frequently by interior designers for good reason! Over time, they’ve proven to look beautiful in lots of different spaces.

In most cases, there is no need for me to reinvent the wheel and I like to use those popular colors as a starting point. From there, I narrow down my search by looking at the paint swatches. I will typically take home 2-3 color samples to see how the colors are going to look in different lighting situations in my own home.

I recommend painting a large cardboard and moving it around to see what the color looks like in different lighting. That’s what I did for the California Cottage exterior paint and we ended up loving our Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay exterior!

As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.

    Hello,
I’m using Accessible beige for the interior of our two story home. (We are too far in to it for changing now. Would there be a complimentary color I could use in a family room/ kitchen, master and master bath. I like warmer tones.
    Thank you,

Hi Kay! Sherwin Williams lists Aesthetic White, Sanderling, and Cadet as coordinating colors. You can find the details here: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/neutral-paint-colors/sw7036-accessible-beige. We’ve used Alabaster with it. I hope this helps!

Did you paint the interior side of the doors as well on the inside of the bedroom? My open living space is alabaster and I want to do accessible beige trim and doors but if I paint the entire door then I feel more limited on the bedroom colors…hmm

Hi Jess! Yes, I also painted the inside Accessible Beige but only because we used the same color scheme throughout the whole house. I’ve seen people paint only one side of the door and I think it’s a nice option especially if you want to go with a different color scheme in your bedroom. Erin Zubot has a great video about this: https://www.facebook.com/reel/814801844116454. I hope this helps!

Hi Claudia, I recommend getting paint samples and painting large cardboards to see if those two colors will work in your space. I used a Satin finish on my Accessible Beige kitchen cabinets but have used a Semi Gloss finish on my white cabinets in my other homes. I think they’re both good options. What finish did you use on your remaining kitchen cabinets?

    Hey there!
I’m looking to repaint using Accessible Beige and Alabaster in my whole house. I’m also having new windows put in. Would it be too drastic to do black windows? All I see are white windows with this color combo!
    Thanks!

Hi there! I think it would depend on the rest of the decor in your house. I do think generally, black pairs well with Accessible Beige and Alabaster. We combined it with black door knobs throughout the house!

Hi there! We have agreeable grey walls and snowbound trim in 90% of our home. I’m wanting to do alabaster walls and accessible beige cabinets and trim in the kitchen. It’s not an open floor plan, so you don’t necessarily see the other rooms when in the kitchen. Do you think this is doable?

      Hi Lindsey,

I think that could look great if the spaces are separated, it’s the exact color combo we had in our kitchen!

I’ve been thinking about doing Accessible Beige on my kitchen cabinets, doors, trim and baseboards at 100%. I’d then do Accessible Beige at 50-75% on the walls. Thoughts?

Hi there, I’m in the middle of a kitchen reno and will be using this color on the cabinets – question: did you refinish your floors as well? What stain did you use?

I am so glad I found this post. I am doing a whole house paint-interior. I was wanting to do alabaster walls with accessible beige trim and doors but was 2nd guessing myself. Your post helped me say “I am going to do it!”
Other colors I am mixing in are sea salt and porpoise as an accent color.
I also just came upon niebla azul as another choice. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Yay, I’m so glad it helped you make a decision! I used Sea Salt in the California Cottage Primary Bathroom when we first bought our house. Niebla Azul is one of the colors I sampled for our living room. Both colors are beautiful!

Hi I am doing a reno, complete new kitchen in a different room. I have bought the GE cafe white appliances with copper handles. Wondering if accessible beige cabinets would work?
I know the appliances have cool under tone but with the warm hardware this still might work? Your thoughts? I see agreeable grey might be a better choice

Hi there! How exciting! I recommend painting a large cardboard and holding it up against your appliances to see if they go together but my guess is they will! Agreeable Gray will give you a different look than Accessible Beige. You could try out SW Natural Tan as an alternative to Accessible Beige.

I’m wanting to paint out doors and trim with Accessible Beige but I’m a little worried it maybe a little too dark in our hallway that doesn’t have any natural light. We have 4 doors in our hallway and the walls are Sea Salt. I painted a sample board like you suggested but not sure if it’s going to make the hallway even darker. Is there maybe another color you could suggest?
    Thanks

I really like Pure White with Sea Salt. If you’re looking for a beige, Natural Linen is a slightly lighter and beautiful alternative to Accessible Beige!

    Hello,
My floors are a light-medium gray. My trim is very white. I want to paint my walls Alabaster and my cabinets Accessible Beige. I have a South facing window that stays open until dark. Do you think these colors will tie in together. I want a warm crisp look not cool.

Hi Angie, I recommend painting a large cardboard Alabaster and moving it around to see how it looks in different lighting in your house. You could do the same for Accessible Beige. Alabaster and Accessible Beige are both warm colors so it’s hard to predict how they will look near your gray flooring. Let me know how it goes!
