We just finished our guest bathroom remodel downstairs and while we’re not ready for another bathroom remodel that involves demo yet, I’ve been itching to at least update the primary bathroom a little bit!
Something I love about a no demo update is that it’s a great way to try something bold! I’m considering a budget friendly makeover using mostly paint, some new hardware and temporary flooring.
Temporary flooring, like peel-and-stick tiles, is a cost-effective, DIY-friendly solution to transform your space quickly. I’ve used it a few times in the past, including at our first rental apartment back in 2016 (has it really been 10 years already???)!

Why Choose Peel-and-Stick Floor Tiles?
- Budget-Friendly: Peel-and-stick tiles are typically significantly cheaper than traditional tile and the cost of labor to install them.
- Easy DIY Installation: You can install them directly over existing floors with minimal tools like a utility knife and measuring tape.
- No Demo: Because you can usually install them over the existing flooring there is no need for demo and the mess or hassle of a construction zone.
- Infinite Styles: These days, peel-and-stick tiles are available in endless designs, from a classic marble look to concrete.
- Rental-Friendly: Peel-and-stick tiles are a great options for renters. As I mentioned above, we actually installed some in our first rental to cover the ugly old flooring! They can be a great removable option that allows renters to customize their space.
Tip: You can make peel-and-stick tiles look even more like real tile by leaving little gaps between them during installation (like you would during a traditional tile installation) and then adding grout at the end! Though that would make removal harder in the future.
Yes, They Work in Bathrooms!
There are waterproof or water-resistant options and we’ve actually installed a few options over the years in our bathrooms. I also recommend properly sealing the edges with silicone caulk to prevent moisture from getting underneath.
