The primary bathroom was our second bathroom project at the California Cottage. I was really excited to tackle this project after all the lessons I learned during the guest bathroom renovation. I can’t wait to share the final California Cottage Primary Bathroom Reveal with you!
Let’s jump right into what the bathroom looked like when we first bought our house and ripped out the old linoleum floors:
We painted the walls, installed new flooring, a new toilet and replaced the shower doors with a shower curtain and it already looked so much better!
We lived with it for about three years before deciding to renovate the bathroom.
First, we demoed the bathroom: we tore out the shower surround and the vanity:
Then, we installed a new shower pan, tiled the shower with Musselbound, installed shiplap, added a new vanity and added decorations like floating shelves and a DIY wood mirror.

I’m so excited about how this bathroom turned out!
These floating shelves were such a fun and easy DIY project and are a great way to create a little more storage and some room for decorations!
I also love how all the wood elements coordinate, something that is really hard to do unless they’re DIY projects which all of them are!
The DIY wood mirror is one of my favorite elements in this bathroom!
I also love how the DIY shower tile turned out, the slight variation in color and the texture look beautiful in person!
The shiplap with the wood trim was another fun DIY project!
